About University of Bridgeport

The University of Bridgeport is a private, independent, non-sectarian, coeducational university, located in Bridgeport, which is the most populous city in the US state of Connecticut, having a population estimated at a number of nearly 138 000 inhabitants, during the 2006 census, fact which also makes it the 5th largest city in New England.


The University of Bridgeport was established in 1927, and it is known for its diverse student population, being currently ranked as the 12th most racially diverse national university in USA, by U.S. News and World Report. It has an enrollment of more than 2000 undergraduate and over 3000 postgraduate students, and offers educational programs in various fields of study, through several colleges and schools, which include: School of Arts and Sciences, International College, School of Business, and Shintaro Akatsu School of Design.


Athletics

Bridgeport's athletic teams are known as the Purple Knights, who compete in NCAA Division II, in 12 sports, 7 for women and 5 for men. Their distinctive colors are purple and white and their mascot is the Purple Knight.
